Costa Rica and Panama

Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica and Panama, leaving around the 26 July, returning around 21 August. Dates are flexible, just trying to find cheapest flights (from London) but so far best I can find is £790. Is anyone able to help? Or know of good but inexpensive hotels?
My other questions are for people who have visited these places before. I'm keen to cut costs where possible, but also aware they are developing countries and don't want to stay anywhere dirty or unsafe. Any tips on accommodation, travelling around, eating, locations to visit, etc? Also anyone know about vaccinations? The FO advice seems confusing.
Many thanks in advance
DS.

There is probably a wealth of information on the Trip Advisor forums and the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forums.0

Skyauction does a few auctions to there

For vaccinations, I used this http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/index.htm
Definitely use lonely planet for advice on places to say, as Incapuppy says. Also the forums on www.gapyear.com can be helpful.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0
