having split from my X partner since xmas, I finally got around to changing my bank address, without much hassle. However I am told to remove my X authorisation and access to my a\c I need her permission, which isnt going to be easy. Is the only other oprion open to me to close the a\c and re-open a new account.?

Its not a joint a\c, so I cannot understand why I need permission to unauthorise anyone with access to my own a\c.

what sort of account is it and in what way does she have authorisation to access your a/c (as you have said its not a joint account)

Are you sure it's not a joint account? Or perhaps she's set up as third party?? Either way you have to sign off an account when you sign onto one. So you need her or just open a new account-bearing in mind that can be a pain for you and you would be best to check your credit file and make sure she's not associated to you, just to be safe.

Its not a joint a/c, however she has authorisation on the a/c as well as access to online banking with the a/c. Its likely I will never see her anymore, so its difficult to get her to sign anything.

I find it baffling that I cannot remove authorisation from my own account. (at the very least blocking online banking) If I have to go to the trouble of closing and creating a new account, just to be on the safe side, I will have no other option. (not too sure what you mean about her being associated to me).

can you not just change the password/security details for the account to stop them logging in? Most online banking facilities allow this.

Being associated with someone in term of credit files means that your finances are linked and will be treated as such. If you were linked and she defaulted on some payments then it would also count against you. Have a browse on the Experian site and I'm sure you'll find more info on this.

Thanks...Although the Irony of online banking is I never use it, dont know the password for it as she set it up years ago. The only payment I have going out of it is my loan payment. It sounds like i need to close it and start again.

You can always ask the secondary card to be blocked as a short term measure. Then write into the bank to have the additional cardholder removed.

no its only a current account, and it only has 1 card, but she can phone and say she has authorasiation on the account, think i will just have to close it and re-open a new account.
