Question about Incapacity Benefit

I am asking on behalf of a friend who has had to put in claim for Incapacity Benefit since she ran out of company sick pay (she has been off for 6 months). The benefits people are asking her to provide her original doctors notes although these are held by the employer (my friend has kept copies of them) would a photocopy of a note be acceptable bearing in mind she cannot get them from the employer?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

She only needs to produce the original sick note that cover her from week 29 of her sickness (SSP being paid by the E/R up to week 28). This sick note may well be held by the E/R. The E/R needs to keep a photocopy and give her the original. JCP do not accept photocopies.

She will also soon be asked to complete a questionaire form IB50, and obtain a green sick note (Med5) from her GP. She should send a copy of this Med5 sick note to E/R and send the original to JCP, or arrange for the E/R to send it to JCP after they have seen it.

All future original sick notes then need to be sent to JCP (after being seen by the E/R if need be).

    I think you mean a Med4 not a Med5.
