Indian Visa advice

Sorry, but wouldn't it be easier just to change the India flight details to your maiden name and travel that way, with everything in your maiden name? The fee for changing name on a ticket is usually about £70 max and wouldn't entail anywhere near the hassle it sounds like you are going to have getting a visa at such late notice, and may even be cheaper. Then you can sort out the name change and passport change (and everything else that needs a name change, banks, driving licence etc) when you get back happy and refreshed from your honeymoon. If you are worried about anything on your trip, you can take your marriage cert with you to prove you are married! (EG getting a honeymoon suite etc!)

I'm getting married next year and there is no way I am putting myself through getting a new passport and changing names etc in time for the honeymoon, on top of all the rest of the wedding hassle, will just sort it out when we get back I think!

Alternatively, change your name before the wedding and get a new passport in plenty of time, change the name on the Russia flights to your married name. But I can see that might seem odd to some ... don't need to tell anyone apart from Mr Deed Poll though! (EDIT - sorry reread your post, might be a bit of a squeeze to do this second idea)
  • Well, our honeymoon is around the world for four months and the reason I haven't changed it to my maiden name before is basically because I've been told they can't do it! It would mean cancelling and re-booking my ticket and that would cost £300 odd pounds! I have realised this option may be easier to find out if this is a feasible option and am waiting to hear back from them! And have had another returned mail form the company that is running the visas!

  • Woo hoo! Some good news! All the airlines I am travelling with have said I can travel on my passport in my maiden name!

So I can apply for my visa in my maiden name and the only thing that won't be will be my flight ticket! Any one think this will be a problem?

Yeah to no rushing around like a headless chicken!
    Thank you to all posters:beer:
  • Big relief!Passport is going to stay in maiden name and phoned indian visa place and as long as my passport and visa in the same name it should be fine! It will only be the airlines that have my married name and they have notes on my account that it is my married name!Hopefully flashing the certificate will mean a couple of upgrades!

I dont think you are allowed to travel in your married name before you actually marry if my memory services me correctly of when I did this. I am sure it says on the forms you are not allowed to travel before your marriage in your married name.

katy...which airlines are you travelling with? Please be careful, you do not always get the correct advice from the call centres, what happens at the airport etc may well be different. Many people believe this to be the case, indeed the airline I worked for, their call centre told me this however of course knowing the people in charge at the airport etc were more upto date on travel rules and regs etc
