eBay just keeps getting sillier.

eBay goes to great lengths to drill in to it's customers to be wary of spoof e-mails, so when I received an e-mail from them telling me an item I had on multiple Buy It Now had sold I went to complete the transaction, by logging in directly to my account.

When I logged in my account said the item was unsold, I had 2 items and one of them sold 10 days ago, I got the usual your item was sold e-mail posted off the item exchanged feedback and that was that, the remaining item was due to end today, so I was pleased that at the last minute the item had sold, confused by the e-mail I had received and the fact the remaining item was sitting in the unsold folder I contacted eBay live to check wether or not this was a glitch and the item had actually sold, or if the e-mail was a spoof, which I doubted for a £2.49 item.

The guy from eBay customer service plodded about checking this and that, asked me if I had a notice of the sale in 'My messages', which he should know better that you don't get notices of sold items in 'My messages', finally after 25 minutes he came back with the reply that they send out two sold notices for the same item, one at the time of the first sale, and one at the end of the Buy It Now, 10 days apart, to me this is really silly. So I hadn't actually sold the second item, what a waste of his time and mine.

There's a "known glitch" at the moment where unsold item emails are being sent to sellers who have switched off notifications, and also a glitch with displaying postage prices on listings and winning bidder notifications.

Somebody I know had 300 auctions end last night, and received a notification for every one to his Blackberry whilst he was out for dinner!

It's not a normal day on ebay unless there is some techy glitch going on!

  • Yes but I didn't get an unsold email, I got a sold email for an item that hadn't been sold.
