Hi,
I've planned a holiday in Italy ....1 week in Rome and 3 days in Venice....I was wondering which is the best way to travel from Rome to Venice?
Are there any cheap airlines in italy?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
AA

Train would be the best solution: civilised, affordable and an interesting journey.0

When we were looking at doing this trip I was just going to hire a car, but train does seem a good idea too.0

Take the train, I've done it in both directions and my parents have also done it from Rome to Venice.
I'd recommend paying a little bit extra to on the Eurostar (not to be confused with our Eurostars) service, as they're very quick and also less crowded, because they only sell allocated seats, rather than just tickets for the journey. Very helpful if you've got luggage etc.
Takes just under 4hrs 30 with Eurostar, as opposed to between 5 and 6hrs on the Intercity. Cost difference is 56.10€ on Eurostar to 41.50€ on the Intercity.

You could get a couchette or bed on an overnight train and save a night's hotel bill, although you would have less than seven hours in your bed until arrival.0

The advantage of taking the train into Venice is that it will take you stright to the islands (rather than the airport which is on the mainland). And there is a Vaporetto (public water boat) stop right in front of Santa Lucia station.0
