A suggestion to improve 'Thanks' system from a newbie

Please note, this is before I even noticed the other thread about the Thanks button.
As a relative newbie on this site, I often find it hard to recognise who is a 'troll' especially if they have made lots of posts and have lots of 'thanks.'
I thought, would it be possible to ensure that you couldn't thank another user until you yourself had received a certain amount of thanks. This would mean that newbies, (myself included) would have to post quite a few helpful posts before they could in turn thank others. In turn, this would give newbies time to see who the 'trolls' are and not thank them for their posts just because they can.
Overall, it would make it easier to see who trolls are, and it would also reduce abuse of the 'Thanks' system.

Hi chou_123...
Don't think the thanks system is meant to be a serious thing on the site... just a bit of fun or an easy way of showing your appreciation for good advice etc... or a way of keeping track of entering comps (if you are a comper)... trolls will always exist on internet forums regardless of what systems you try and put in place...
Just my opinion as I noticed no one else had replied... :T0 -

Personally, I don't think 'trolls' cause a major problem to most newbiesand it would be a shame to penalise newbies from using one of the fun features of the site, just for a very tiny minority of users.
The thanks button isn't really a rating system of any kind, so a person having a larger 'thanks total' isn't necessarily any more informative or knowledgeable than somebody with far fewer.
The thanks button is quite literally a quick way to thank another poster without needing to actually type a reply.0
