bank criteria for bank account/credit card ..

i thought might be a topic of interest. a few years back my friend i believe worked for The Cooperative bank and she said they only opened accounts for people who were a bit of a liaibility (therefore could make money on them). dont know if it is still the case. wonder what the other banks are like maybe others here have some ideas of their selection criteria.

When I worked for LLoyds Bank about 6 years ago they liked the people with
overdrafts and encouraged them to make use of the facility.
I remember one particular case where someone had 100k in their savings bank and the customer complained because we returned one of their cheque for insufficient funds. The customer threatened to close his account and the Manager wasn;t at all bothered. However if the customer had a reasonable overdraft facility they would have bent over backwards to keep him.
