Hi,
I have a friend who has recently found out that someone has maliciously set up a yahoo email with her name and has been emailing people she knows to make it look like the email is genuinely coming from her.
Is there any way to find out where or who set up this email address?
Thanks

Not really. You could contact the police, who could contact yahoo, who could provide the IP address, who could contact the ISP, who could inform the police of the details, but it's unlikely to go that far.
It's the same as me writting a letter now, and signing it from you. Not a lot you can do about it.
My advice? Email everyone she's in her address book, warning them of the dodgy email address - about all she can do.

if the real person has a yahoo ID, edit their profile to make it clear someone else is faking it..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Your friend should contact the police. Their are now laws to stop people using the internet to "bully"

Thanks for the advice guys. I thought I would be able to use some sort of program to help trace the email. I found this, but not sure if it is worth purchasing: http://www.visualware.com/resources/tutorials/email.html0

Did you not read my post? The absolute closest a you, the police or a program can get is the ISP, then it's down to them to disclose the information - which they won't unless you're a police officer.
