Update on my meter situation....called electricity company again after the 24 hour period was up and they have calculated that what I am paying into the meter on the key, IS the same amount as I am using....so my meter is accurate.

No debt to be repaid btw.

Will need to either try to cut down on usage, or take more dig money off the lads to cover it. :rotfl: That's what they get for having every gadget known to man.

    wow that sounds really high

i have a key meter for electric and gas and i put £10 per week on the electric and about £10 every 3 weeks for the gas (no heating right now so only using for how water and cooking). i am at home most days using washer//tumble dryer (cant use late as i have flats on both sides and up and downstairs).

maybe you should consider changing to another supplier?

I pay about £10 a week and that is with an electric cooker. We are in most of the time so your bill seems pretty hefty.

We use between £20-£25 per week. 5 bedroom house with between 2-5 teenagers + 2 adults in it depending what day it is. We have oil heating.

Our biggest problem is washer and dryer. I admit I am guilty of using tumber dryer for everything. No matter what I have tried to do to cut down just does not seem to work. I have just looked and used £28 last week which is higher than normal but I know for 2 days last week all I seemed to do was wash clothes.

We used to pay by DD and paid £80 pm but DD were not covering bills and ended up with bill of £350 as well. We apid this so we were not paying arrears on meter. I know a lot of people do not let prepaid meters but I would rather know it is a bill I do not have to worry about.
    TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T
  • we have had a key metre installed but it is faulty waited 2 weeks for engeneer from british gas to fix it it is electric meter we put 15 pound credit on it and instead of going down in value the credit is going up now at 72 pound any help
  • I've had the usual moan to the missus AGAIN this evening regarding how much we're spending on Electric. We currently have a prepayment meter and spend 30-40 per week on electric. Yes we have a young toddler but find it difficult to accept this cost. How much do you spend and how many are in your family?

Hi Paul, I just came across this site cos I was looking for the same answers, I have the same problem I am spending the same, between 30 and 40 per week. I have no gas and its just 2 people in the flat. Also not all the heaters are on just two radiators so despite of that I am still feeling cold most of the time. I also run 2 computers which are on a lot, but I remember that it used to be only 10 per week. I dont really know what to do, or whether it is normal, or what can be done to reduce this cost cos its just seem to increase all the time. I put 20 quid in it on saturday night and today i looked at it and it was sitting at 11 quid. It just seems to be getting worse and i aint kidding im getting really paranoid now!!!

We moved into a 2 bed 1st floor flat about 4 months ago, it came complete with one of these prepay meters. So far we've put on it roughtly £550!! We've phoned e.on about this and they claim that it is set to the correct rates.
There are 2 of us living here, we're rarely at home during the day, the only appliances left on during the day is the fridge (for obvious reasons) and the radiators (as we now have an issue with damp!) We run 2 computers sometimes of an evening and a night but most of the time the only things on are a couple of energy saving lights and the tv. The previous flat we were in (in the same block) we were with E.on on a normal meter and over 6 months we spent a grand total of.........(insert sarcastic drum roll) £89 no lie.

So if 6 months on a normal meter = £89 how the hell can 4 month on a prepay = £550??

I'd be interesting to know which suppliers those with the high charges are on.
I put £10 a week in mine. I'm with EDF who seem cheaper compared with my neighbour's meter -she's eon too interestingly.
Two bedroom house-we're both useless at turning lights out -and I work from home so there's always at least one PC running-sometimes three and two TVs. Usual fridge and seperate freezer. No heating or hot water as that's on gas. I don't use the tumbler except in dire need
