Just confirming that to send by freepost, I could, just post it through the post box, without actually going into the post office?
However, if I want a proof of postage, id have to go in and ask

    Yep that's right. As you said, you can still get it recorded if you want.

    Recorded and proof of postage are completely different things, but yes, both need to be done at the Post Office. Freepost can be posted at a post box.
