Hello all, Just got my new current account setup, im only 16 so first time i have done this, i have received all my papers, online banking ID and visa debit card.
I want someone to pay me via bank transfer, but i need to give them my sort code, where would i find this? Would it be on my visa debit card?
Also what else would i need to give them to allow them to pay me?
Thanks
Terry

I think you would just need account number, sort code and your name and the banks name.
Your sort code should be on your debit card, usually a 6 digit number. If not then it will be on your cheque book.0 -
it is the 6 digit number before the longer number on your debit card0

Right im with alliance and leicester, the card has the name of the bank, then below that a gold chip thing, below that is a 16 digit number broken up to 4 parts, below that their is valid fro and expires, then below that their is a number in the format:
xx xxx xxxx then on the other end of the card is a number ( next to the visa logo )
Then my name
I do not have a check book0 -
It may not be on your debit card. Look at the top of any correspondence you have been sent for a six digit number starting with 72.
You don't say what type of account it is but the xx xxx xxxx is probably your account number. If it's a Premier current a/c, to work out your sort code, take the first digit from your nine-digit account number and add it to the end of 72-50-0. For example, if your nine-digit account number begins with a 2, your sort code would be 72-50-02. Other account types may be different. If you want to set up a direct debit or arrange to have payments paid into your account, you will need to quote an eight-digit version of your account number. To do this, simply take off the first digit from your account number. For example, if your account number is 123456789, your eight-digit number would be 23456789.0 -

BTW, I'm surprised you haven't received this information in your welcome pack! Or maybe you have and you've missed it?0 -
Most of them show the 6 digit sort code as nn-nn-nn (eg 72-50-01) on the card (think A&L are 72-50-somethings)0

Nice one, i have my account number, looks like this is the case, but does that mean they only have 9 diffrent sort codes for the whole of A&L?
EDIT: Looked through all papers and online, all i have is plus saver account number, pin's and current account number.0 -

An easy way to check your sort code is to go onto online banking and click on order stationery, where you can request a cheque book.
In the front of the cheque book it says something in effect of: "use this sort code and account number for transfer money with banks outside of A&L" and a longer 9 digit number for using within the bank
Unlike other Visa Debits (LTSB, Barclays), the standard sort code and account number aren't printed on it, just the 9 digit account number0
