    ANYONE ???
  • I went to Yahoos search engine and asked "Can cats get cold sores and this was one of the replies

Cats can get a virus called "Feline Herpes"....it's not the same kind of herpes that humans get...the cat will not get a cold sore.
It's more of a respitory illness.
Two of my four cats have this virus and when they are having an outbreak the first sign is sneezing, coughing...like they are trying to get up a hairball.
They can also get a runny nose and red runny eyes...the whites of their eyes can also get pink or red...just like pinkeye in a human.

Most cats are exposed to the herpes virus as kittens and become immune to it while others don't develep the immunity.

In your case the cat may have an Upper Respitory Infection.
So yes, take kitty to the Vet ASAP...you don't want to let a URI go untreated.

On a side note: You CAN NOT catch the herpes virus from your cat and you CAN NOT catch it from you.

Good luck, I hope kitty feels better soon.

I'm happy to report that my cat has 99% stopped sneezing now and the blister is all but gone, her eyes were bright and she ran to the cat flap this morning!. She's like a different cat compared to 2 days ago! Thank you for caring enough to reply xx

Several posted about cats having sores around their mouth and all said they had to take them to their vets. Vet suggested bathing with salt water but I think the main concern is that your kitten could have an infection where the sore is a symptom so a quick trip to the vet might be in order

  • Sounds like cat flu - probably Calici virus.

She sounds healthy enough which is good. However upper resp tract infections can take away there sens of smell temporarily and cause them not to eat as much - so be prepared.

It is also something she will carry for life and can recur if she is stressed, so keep her stress free, and think before getting another cat as this increases stress leads to more shedding fo the virus and the other cat is more likely to pick it up.

I would do an initial trip to the vets, especially if you are insured, so they can't say they weren't informed.
