Ravenheat CSI85 red warning light on display panel.

Hi, I've posted this on the techie board also, but I thought I may get a better response on here. I have a problem with my Ravenheat CSI85(T) boiler.

When I run the hot water, or the CH, the boiler fires 3 times, then the light comes on and it shuts down.

The manual suggests the constant red light is a warning of a flame failure of the burner, and to reset the boiler by turning it off and onn again. this has done nothing and i've tried it 3-4 times.

anyone have any experience with these boilers.

I'd ask my dad or brother who are both plumbers, but both are working down south for the next couple of weeks.

Here's the manual.

This problem can be caused by reversed polarity, so if you have had any electrical work done lately then suspect this. You would need a mutlimeter to check the polarity of the boiler connections.

Other than that the solution will normally be to replace the PCB or, if you are lucky, the flame sensor itself.

Had a similar problem with my worcester not so long ago.

If you're going to have a bash yourself, you've just got to use process of elimination mate.

First up, does it try to ignite? Can you see it sparking /trying? If not, then it could be a number of things, is your gas valve opening? Is the fan running etc etc...

If it is sparking and just not igniting, same thing, check the gas valve.

If the boiler actually fires up and lights but then fails, check the flame sensor and gas flow sensors.

I'm not a plumber and don't know much about boilers, but I am an electrician, so I just followed common sense checking one thing at a time and reading the technical manual which told me what sequence the boiler fires up in (Hence knowing what to check, when). Eventually I found my ignition transformer on the main PCB was loose, so a quick refit and all was well!!!

    Good luck mate.

    Steve.

My Ravenheat failed twice through the cable feeding the flame failure device not feeding back a signal to indicate that the pilot light was lit. The first time it was shorting to the casing and the second time it just failed. The BG fitter looked at the logic diagram on his laptop and this wasn't even part of the diagnostics. He had to ring Ravenheat to ask their advice which was to change this lead.
