I found this site for expats and owners abroad and it's got some interesting stuff on it about moving and buying abroad (despite being called holidaytruths. I'm intending to go to India - am excited!

We bought off-plan in South Africa in December. The house is now built and the first tenant is about to move in from 1 December. If we were to sell now, we would make £20k profit.
It has been difficult managing from here though and we would never have done it (a build) if we did not have my brother in law on hand to oversee things for us.0 -
most have posted about bulgaria/romania etc. have u really checked everything as we wouldn't buy in an eastern bloc country - too many rumours about how you need locals to buy and put property in their names because only sell and buy to the nationals0

There are still bargains in continental Europe (France, Spain, Portugal.) but you need the time to spend sniffing about, talking to the locals and making friends and exploring and eventually you will get lucky. Go through the agencies and you are paying a lot more for a property than the locals. Sounds obvious, but the savings can be huge. Being at the right place at the right time with the cash can bag you a bargain.0
