Vodaphone connect card

Hi

I have picked up a vodaphone connect card a pcmcia one with a sim card and wondered what they were about, I thought vodaphone did USB dongles to connect to the internet, or is this a pre USB thingie.

Can I top up a tenner on the sim and surf away?

It's a "pre-USB thingie" and will give you GPRS speeds and not the 3G speeds of the USB dongle.

It depends on the SIM card inside it as to what you do with it. If it's a pay-as-you-go SIM then you would be wise to check the data charges.
  • Hi

    Thanks for replying.
I wasn't sure of the technical name for "pre-USB thingie" !!

I picked it up at the bootsale for 50p!!

It is a PAYG vodaphone sim card but currently it has no money on it, I might pop into voda' shop and see what the rates are.

    Thanks again

Vodafone PAYG data charges are £1/day for the first 15MB then £2/MB thereafter.

I bought one a couple of years ago for internet access while on the move.

The reception and speed were rubbish, so I got rid of it on Ebay!

Does the card say "option"(that's who make this card) on it?

Those vodaphone cards ARE 3g! I've had one for nearly 3 years! I use it on my linux laptop. They are NOT networked locked so ANY sim can use them for basic SMS, GPRS or 3g use :D

The reception was great on mine

I didn't see the 'option' bit, but I will try later.
I will pop into the vodaphone shop later and see if I can use it like a USB dongle type device.

    Keep ya posted

check on the card where you slip the sim card in. Does it have a model ID?

Does a Voda 3g card really offer a no-contract £1 per day (15MB) option? I used to have a GPRS card and it worked well of you subscribed to Onspeed. The restricted data rate could be a benefit as it stops Windows or Virus Update from trashing out your daily 15MB limit.
  • Hi

    It is an "option" card.
The enclosed CD has a label on it -WA1450-VCD37
Do I just add credit to the sim card and surf away? or is there any setup needed?
