Techie help required - Wireless router question

I would like to move my PC upstairs and, instead of having Virgin move all the cabling, leave the modem downstairs linked to the wireless router that I installed for the Kids laptops.
I am told that there is such a thing as a wireless card that I can plug into a USB on the PC to do this. Is this correct and what is it called and where do I get one? Are they expensive?
Thanks for any advice.

You can either get a internal pci card or a usb dongle or an eithernet wireless bridge. I'd recommend the dongle approach as its probably the easiest to install.
USB is pretty cheap too: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3593637/Sweex-Wireless-LAN-USB-2-0-Adapter-54-Mbps/Product.html is £10 for example.0 -
I was definitely thinking of the USB option but was not sure what I was looking for.
Would this do the trick : http://stores.channeladvisor.com/cablestar/Items/usbwlanadap?&gclid=CJu05qiWvZQCFQWR1QodE0n_Tg0 -
yes although the one from play is a brand name and cheaper when p&p is taken into account

Hello again.
Now bear in mind that I am a bit of a computer dummy. I bought the above mentioned USB thingy and plugged it in expecting it just to work but heyho it doesn't.
What do I need to do?
What I want to do is move my PC upstairs but leave the modem and router downstairs as I do not want to get virgin in to move the cabling upstairs. I though this would be simple but I can't get it to work. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.0
