Cheap Activities in Ilfracombe

Hi everyone,

I'm leaving for Ilfracombe tonight for 5 days. My boyfriend has kindly paid for the accomodation as I'm a bit skint. We have changed our Tesco Vouchers for deal vouchers to use at Exmoor Zoo. Does anyone know of any other cheap activities we can do that are close? (Don't want to be spending too much money on petrol whilst we're there either so closer the better)

Thanks

    Oooh go to Woolacombe beach!!!

It is amazing - we went there and only got back on Sunday and it was great.

There is main Beach but it is cold and Windy down there but a guy told us in an Art shop there that the locals go to the little Beach next to it called Barricane Beach. It is like a cove and on either side there are huge rocks which keeps the Wind at bay.

There is lots to do on the Main Beach, from the Sea to a few rides and a Bouncy Castle.. plus it was entertaining watching the huge Seagulls nicking food off the people who were getting Food from a hut on the Beach :o

We had a great cheap day out until it came to food - double the price we are used to back home :)

We also went to The Big Sheep in Bidesford which was a whole day of fun, the Atlantic Village, Gnome World which was only £2.95 each per adult, Clovelly Village which was beautiful but a hard long walk...

We spent a fortune during the Week because the Weather was so bad!!!

Exmoor Zoo was almost £9 per adult and it was very small but very much fun, the kids got to stroke the Skunk/Snakes/Rabbits/Guinea Pigs and they could go in and run around in a Pen with the Rabbits... very much a hands on Zoo and the food in there was very reasonable we thought, and very nice.

If you can, you must get to the Big Sheep. It was fun for adults and the kids loved it, my toddler got to bottle feed a Lamb and there are Sheep races, Duck races, Ram show, and a fab indoor play centre with three huge slides that we all went on!!

Thanks for that. As we have the Tesco Vouchers we can get into the Zoo for free and may have enough left over to get into Big Sheep for free too.

Go to lynton and lynmouth - it is very pretty. You can walk down the hill from Lynton into lynmouth, either walking back up (if you're fit) or catch the funicular railway (not sure how much this is) back up. Whilst in Lynmouth, you can walk to Watersmeet which is NT and very pretty.

Just looked at direction from Ilfracombe to Clovelly on theaa.com and it says it takes 1hr. Bit to far for us really. Need to keep petrol costs to a minimum. Might go to Lynmouth though. That says 35mins.

Clovelly was beautiful. Totally unspoilt, you can't drive down there and you can still see them using the wooden sledge type things to drag their things down to their houses.

That was well worth going, it is absolutely beautiful and there is a Waterfall when you get to the bottom.. and if you struggle to walk back up you can pay for them to run you up by Land Rover :o

You can spend a good 3 hours there easily and if you take a picnic you can eat it on the front. I would loved to have gone down there again but my hips and legs were aching and I couldn't handle it!

For free in Ilfracombe area - Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton beaches - just parking to pay for. Ilfracombe itself has a pretty little park out at Bicclescombe. Pop up onto Exmoor -Lynmouth, Countibury Hill, Porlock, Exford - if it's nice weather visit Lan'acre bridge and paddle in the water. I wouldn't bother going to theme parks (unless free virtually, as you say).

Avoid watermouth castle, its a dive.

Its a so called theme park but the tour map of the park is actual size and the rides were stolen form shopping centers. We didn't get to go in the castle as buggies were banned and we cant carry the babes.
