Hi, I'd appreciate some advice on car hire for Spain. Ive used the price comparison sites and then they slap the insurance on top which I gather arent the most competitive... surprise surprise. Therefore I need your advice pls.
Is it best to use one of the comparison sites and then buy insurance separately? Which companies are best for providing cover? Or is it best to go through a broker which provide an all inclusive price? Which brokers are best?

            *bump*
Can anyone help with this? I did read Martin's piece on car hire and search the forums but couldnt get a definitive answer so any help would be welcome.

I have used Carjet before, used to be really good but now adding a few extras, check "what's included". Tyre damage, even punctures, are not covered by most hire companies these days, neither is glass and lock damage. Insurance4carhire offer policies which cover the CDW excess and tyre/glass damage for an annual price of around £50. You would have to pay the hire company and claim it back from I4CH.
All you can do is get a few quotes and decide from there, last time Carjet had no cars left, late booking in August, they suggested I tried Hertz who were, surprisingly, cheaper. I used Ins4 carhire to avoid Hertz's excessive damage waiver charges.
Airline Network worth a try too, again check whats included0

I used the travelsupermarket car hire comparison last week for my xmas break to Lanzarote.
It came up with a few deals just over £100 for a week, I saw a few like "record" but they have bad feedback on here for fuel bills as i think they run full to empty policy meaning they charge you whatever they want for fuel.
I saw "Sixt" in the list about £110 so went direct to their website.
After putting in my details it came up on their own website as £95 for the week and they have the full/full fuel policy.
After checking through the terms and cons, a move to Quidco click through the link for another 5% cashback (tracking as 6% so happy days)I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

We used travelsupermarket to get the best deal and as previous poster then checked and got cash back through Quidco. We ended up using europcar via autocar. On top of this we purchased excess insurance from worldwide insurance which covers everything including glass for £13.50 for the week - we were very glad as when we arrived to pick our car hire up europcar were trying to sell this to use for 75 euros!
In total a weeks car hire in barcelona/costa brava cost us £102.50 including the excess insurance which seemed pretty good to me!Ladedah 0 0

I think their policy has changed as their website states the following
Do I have to return the vehicle with an empty tank?
Please note that you have to return the vehicle with the same level of fuel as you received it as we do not do business with fuel. If you return the tank half full, please return the vehicle with the tank half full.

I've got a car booked with Record but via www.email-car-hire.com instead in Majorca for later this summer. The email price was slightly better and also included kids seats free, plus the fuel policy compared to others was what I wanted contrary to a couple of the earlier posts that they run full-full policies0
