Thanks, this confirms my gut feeling. Seeing news footage of a recent shoot-out involving police & drug dealers on the streets of Tijuana (and primary school children running to take cover in nearby buildings) a couple of weeks ago had started me wondering!

seeing as you have kids with you, have you thought of a surf lesson while you are there? my girls loved it so much we they had 3 x 2 hour lessons and really picked it up. we used www.surfinfire.com who are a little further up the coast, but still only a half hour drive away. they are trained firefighters, first-aiders and surf champs, and they really look after you.

you can't do So Cal and not have a go at surfing...
