Help! Car insurance details
Hi guys
my car insurance is due up for renewal in august and my current company (Swift Cover) have quoted quite a high renewal price. I think I can do better and have looked at Martins advice. I have just put my details into moneysupermarket but on comparing the top 5 companies in closer detail im not sure about one or two things:
1 - "Legal Cover" - presumably this is necessary. All seem to have an additional charge for this. What does this cover?

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

It depends what you mean by "necessary" - you don't have to have it in order to drive a car, but it might make claiming easier if you have a complicated accident. You need to decide whether you're more worried about saving £22-ish a year, or more worried about having cover in the event of an accident.
Cover varies, and you must check with the individual insurer. Roughly speaking, it will be something like:
Costs of recovering uninsured losses which arise directly from any road traffic accident involving:
-your death or injury
-damage to your car
-damage to any property in your car which you own or are legally responsible for
-any other uninsured losses you sufferMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Exactly as Badger_Lady says, motor legal cover covers uninsured losses.
With Directline one of the terms of the motor legal protection is that it can be used in the event of a non fault claim but I am unsure about other companies' stance on this, although I'd imagine it to be the same.0
