I do not want to renew my tax credits claim

This may seem a strange question. I claimed tax credits a number of years ago but my daughter grew up and went to uni. My income is too high for me to qualify for Working tax credits, but every year I receive an award notice of zero and a Annual Declaration Form asking me to renew my claim. By default if you sign and return the ADF you are automatically deemed to be claiming for the next year. My question is how can I opt out/not renew my claim. I've searched everywhere for an answer to this question but the facility doesn't seem to exist.

My Grandfather told me there are two kinds of people those who do the work and those who take the credit.

On the renewal form there will be a phone number why not ring them and tell them of your situation and that it is unlikely to change and you do not want to renew.0

You will need to request that your claim is withdrawn by post or by phone which is much quicker.
You will be read a disclaimer with the following points:
-Your claim will be withrawn from the last day of the previous financial year (5th April 2007).
-If your circumstances change you will need to re-apply for tax credits and any new claim will only be backdated for 93 days.
-If you have any outstanding overpayments you will be asked to pay these back directly.
As long as you agree with these statements your claim will be withdrawn.
You will receive a few more pieces of paperwork after this as your claim will be withdrawn and finalised.0 -
Thanks for your replies, I have phoned and the operator tells me that my claim won't be renewed. I don't have great faith in helplines in general but if it doesn't do the trick I will put it in writing by registered post.

Do you have an auto renewal? If so did the operator state that your claim has been withdrawn?0

I don't know what an auto-renewal is. I have received an annual tax credits renewal pack and Annual review form in the post. As I wrote originally I earn too much to receive working tax credit and therefore have received zero tax credits for a number of years. I requested that my claim not be renewed and she said that as I am in receipt of zero tax credits she would be able to do that. She also stated that I would be able to claim again in the future without detriment if my situation alters. My Grandfather told me there are two kinds of people those who do the work and those who take the credit.

It sounds as though you may have what is called an auto renewal. On your review it will ask if you income is within certain limits, if it is your award will renew automatically.
If it auto renews, you will receive the same form again next year.
If you had a form to fill in with your income this is a reply required renewal.
If you dont return the reply required renewal your claim will terminate.
If you are unsure which one you have you should call again to make sure. If they say it is auto you should request that they WITHDRAW your claim. If they say this is not possible you can ask them to check their guidance under "Withdrawing a claim". If it is reply required as I said, you have nothing else you need to do as it WILL terminate on or around 31st July.0 -
