Looking for work in Social Services/care, whilst studying - I'm from North orginally, so think I'll head back that way - would love South West, but concerned there's not enough work to keep me whilst studying....0

so true, got to love manchestaaaaaaaaaaaar!
v good transport links with buses and the metrolink (tram system, for the non-mancunians), also good motorways near (depending on what scale transport you want)
green spaces around if you know where to look, and a mere stones throw from Peak District
and lots of shops as well

My OH and I moved away from London about 30 months ago now.
It depends what you want(work/family/life)? Also where your family/friends are based. Those two are the biggest factors I think.
We left as you say for a better lifestyle and yes we have that but sometimes people away from London are not so forgiving in their attitudes!
We decided on Nottingham, great links back to London easy access to wherever in terms of the north, amazing nightlife, the universities do help in bringin a young vibrant atmosphere to nights out if you need them. Also the housing depending on areas, whether they be rural or city based are reasonably priced.
Work wise I guess you have your pick!
Were mid 20's and love it so far, Im retraining and generally enjoy not having to get on crowded commuter trains and switching onto smelly DLR cabins!

Well, that's given me lots of food for thought - does anyone know what's the cheapest university city to live in?? I'll be seeking to buy a property, and looking to pay around £130k...0

Cardiff is a thriving university city for a young person-plenty to do re clubs but lots of culture too. The Welsh are incredibly friendly- infact my Australian optician who is well travelled told me we were the friendliest nation in his opinion!
We are right on the coast and have a multi million Bay complex in the city with restaurants, shops and the new Welsh Millenium Centre etc We have a brilliant city centre full of architecture, Cardiff Castle, Millenium Stadium, museums etc We are also a stones throw from the country, lots of country pubs and the wonderful Brecon Mountains are an hours drive away.We are adjacent to the M4 so are 2.5 hours from London, 30 mins from Bristol etc We are known as God's country and I couldn't agree more!0 -

You can get a 3 bed semi (+ ensuite) in a nice area about 20 mins drive from Warwick uni with that budget.
And the living costs are on a par with this price...I ain't never moving back down south!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

You need to really think about what you like about where you live now and what you don't like. A good idea is to rent first in the area you want to move to and see if you can rent out your house/flat in London. I have a friend that moved from the city to live right in the country side in a bigger house with lovely views. After two long hard years they then moved back to live just outside the city.
What they found was that they had a lovely view but had non of the facilities that they got used to when living in the city. The social life was more family centred and they had no children. They made lots of efforts to get to know the locals; but found that they had little in common.
I personnally could not move to the countryside. I love to have good public transport and not to have to drive everywhere. I love to walk to everywhere that I need to go.. (park, shops, library, hairdressor etc) I found my part of the city very friendly and I can walk down to the shops and stop a few times to chat to people I know. Being in the city means that there are many people that live the faster track of live but you don't need to be part of that. Just live a slower pace life and be with those who are the same.
Moving is expensive... so try it out first then when you know you have found the place you love then sell up and move there. Good luck.“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson
