Should I pay on first bill

Justa general question, for years now, when my electric bill comes in I would pay it within around 24hours of getting it. Now last bill, it arrived about a week before my wages came in and to cut a long story short I left paying the bill for about 10 days. I didnt receive a reminder, just paid it then. NO drama or anything.

So anyway, is there really any point in paying my bill as soon as it hits the mat, is there really anything wrong with waiting till the reminder arrives, my brother who does this all the time has shown me theres no charges to pay if I do.
So what do you think

you may get a prompt payer discount for your next bill if you pay it straght away. its a small amount usaly but it is still a wee bit of a saving. Keep leving it longer and longer and the reminders will start to be issued earlyer

  • I used to think that, but here in Northern Ireland, they dont run that scheme, theres no discount for paying early that I can find. Just wondering if it only benefits the supplier really if I pay so quick, better in my account for a fortnight eh ;)

If you get no benifit for paying it right away fine. BUt holding on to the money 'caues you can. Is not that good (I one of the ways I got myseld into debt leving and leving off paying , then forgtting about it spening the money on somthing else and then have to pay more the next, week, month, quater.)
Just don't make a speacil trip to pay it.

I must say I wait until the last minute to certain pay bills. However if there are any that you can benefit from paying by monthly Direct Debit this is definitely the way to go. Combined Gas and Electricity not only gives you a dual Fuel discount but if you pay by DD then your unit costs are cheaper. Change to an online service package and even if you remain with the same company you can save approx £100 a year just for paying a different way
  • There is only one supplier of gas and electricity over here, so theres no chance of saving money that way :( Only way to save is to switch things off and turn off the heating :) Think i'll just make them wait for their money, I pay it online anyway so only takes a few minutes when i'm sitting at the computer;)
