Hi all
We are planning a short trip to Bruges in August just hubby and me. I work in a school so can't avoid the hols unfortunately. Can anyone recomend a good hotel that is not too expensive please.
Also is there a best time or day to travel. We are hoping to go on Eurostar feom St Pancras using our airmiles.I've never been on Eurostar before and never been to Bruges so any tips would be welcomed.
Thanks

We booked an apartment - actually a small house - through www.holiday-rentals.com and we previously stayed in the novotel. Take a look at www.hotelscomparisons.com0

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Fevery last year as it was the best hotel in our price bracket on Tripadvisor. It was perfect for us and Paul who runs it couldn't have been more helpful. It's about a ten minute stroll from the main market square which was great as the walk was so lovely. Also for anyone who is driving, they offer free secure parking which is rare in Bruges.
Have a great time, we're going back next year!

You can book hotels through the Eurostar website, packaged together with the train ride. Otherwise, check out Interhome for renting apartments: I had a good experience with them, and they now give cashback with Quidco.
Eurostar: I found the train rather stuffy and the journey boring. Food and drink on board were over-priced and of rather poor quality, so buy snacks before boarding rather than on the train. However, a first class ticket includes a meal, as well as champagne and assorted fine wines. On many journeys the price difference is only about twenty pounds, so a first class ticket (they call is Leisure Select) might be a smart MSE move.0 -
Thanks for the tips voyager2002. We'll take our own snacks.0

Bruges is lovely by the way, I really liked just wandering up and down the little streets and courtyards. And especially liked all the chocolate shops, we had to go into each one and believe me every second shop sells chocolate!
The buildings are beautiful, take the time to go into at least one of the churches and the canal trip is good albeit somewhat cramped on the boat. Watch out for the cyclists they are everywhere.0 -

I agree with all of that only you forgot to mention the patisseries! Cake and coffee, chocolate, more cake and coffee, chocolate, lace, chocolate and cake ... the perfect trip!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
Yippee we have just booked at the Hotel Fevery! It looks affordable for us. Also we used our airmiles for Eurostar so cost us nothing. One very happy bunny here.:j
Thanks for the advice folks.0
