I think the most recent is valid, regardless of how old it is. But you do need to update it if any of the people you are leaving stuff to die themselves.

If it is properly written in the first place this issue will be covered already.
  • You only need to update it if it needs to be updated.
E.G. When what is called a "Life Event" occurs.
    e.g. of a "Life Event"
    A divorce.
    A death.
    A marriage
    Grandchildren
    etc

Note that if you made the will BEFORE you married, then the will be automatically revoked (cancelled) when you get married, so you will therefore be without a will [unless the will expressly records that it was made in contemplation of marriage]. Otherwise, the last will made stands, no matter how old it is.

As said by the previous poster, you should review your will when your circumstances change, eg when get children/grandchildren etc. However, your existing will is still valid.

A word of caution about "free" wills - check that you are very clear on who will be the executor of the will - usually the free service requires that the person providing the "free" will is made executor (that is, one of the people responsible for putting in place your wishes and dealing with your estate) and they then charge a fee for this to your estate. You might be perfectly happy with this, but you should check the likely costs - sometimes it is even a percentage of your estate, rather than a reflection of the value of the work done. On the other hand, you might not care!
  • An advert in the Telegraph today offers readers a will for under £20
normal price £75. Someone comes to your home.

  • I don't know which link you were sent before but here's a link to a charity called Will Aid. It's not free but you can donate as much as you like to the charity. I believe you can even have the charity named as a beneficiary in your will if you don't or can't pay up front:

I had mine and my partner's done last year much to my relief!
