ebay, seller 'negotiating' price after auction.

Quick question,
can a seller ask for more money if an item is sold in a n auction for less than they wanted??

I have just seen the quote below on a listing and its put me off bidding, I dont know where I would stand if I won, then he wanted lots more than the winning price:

'There is no start price or reserve, but if I don't think it has made enough I will negotiate with the prospective buyer'

His quote is a load of tosh ~ at the end of the auction the winning bid is a contract between the buyer and the seller and not the time to start *negotiations*

If he has a specific figure in mind then he should set a reserve.

He is obviously a special kind of stupid ;)

    No, he can't.

Well, he can, but he won't be doing it for long.

He can ask, but you would be stupid to agree and he is going against the rules. If he refuses to sell you at the closing price report as a non-performing seller.

That's one of the funniest things I've seen in a listing!

I take it the seller is a newbie? Surely!

27 Feedback, registered since November 2005, but the listing title is only one word long - they've sold 11 other items with single word titles as well.

    Bless her...!

(Why were people so quick to assume the seller was a "he"?!)

The seller is wide open for a chancer to come along and 'test' her 'terms and conditions'.

Thanks to everyone who replied, however I dont seem to be able to find the correct catagories in the drop down menu for reporting this item, or im wondering if to just email the seller and advise them, as 'she' is fairly new.

    Hi,

As everyone else has said, the seller can not do this, they are breaking eBay rules.

If you want to report her to eBay for this I would suggest using the Help link at the top of the page and then click on the Contact us button, you will need all the relevent details; item number, username, title.

Or, you could try contacting her to let her know she is breaking the rules, as eBay class this as fee avoidment. If she wanted a specific amount she should either have set a reserve or if it is below £50 (minimum reserve allowed) she should have started the item at a higher amount, incuring a higher listing fee.

Though, if you contact her all she might do is end the Auction/ Listing, and relist later, so she can not be reported for that item. Unless someone else reports her for the new listing!

Good luck with what ever you decide.

Report the offending item if you want to. It'll probably get pulled by ebay for circumventing fees/reserve fee avoidance

I've already messaged the seller when I found the listing, and sent to her in the way of some ebay help and advice sites.

I think ebay are doing a good enough job of hounding the small, inexperienced, private sellers off the site, without the help of people reporting them for being naive.
