sd cards

Can anyone help me with this message. I tried to read the files on my computer file manager which are on my SD CARD. " S.D. Card I/O Error and then the computer screen goes blank. I am using 1 gb Sandisk.

    A few things I found online, make sure SD card and SD card slot is clean, then update firmware for the memory card reader, but, if you're using a device plugged directly to read the data, some sites say to make sure the device is fully charged!
