Any ideas? looking for secluded UK cottage holiday!

Having spent days searching the Internet, I have come up with very little in my search for a holiday cottage or apartment, and am hoping somebody can give us a reccommendation via private message.
We are looking for a week in a cottage/barn/apartment, anywhere in the Eastern or Southern part of the UK, departing within the next month or so.
We don't necessarily need to be near the sea, nor necessarily too close to amenities as we have transport.
Ideally, we are looking for a detached private cottage with own secluded garden, the more remote the better.
We have searched endlessly with only a few possibles. We are budgeting in the £300-£400 region, and do not expect 5 star accommodation, just a reasonably priced private week away.
We are a non-smoking couple with no pets.
If anybody has a cottage or similar to let, or knows of somewhere suitable, we'd appreciate your info via private mail.

gumtree.com have a holiday rental section with some really great places
also hoseasons do a huge selection of cottages.
I hope you find something, I could do with a getaway myself.0 -

Thank you for the replies. I am looking into these. However, if anybody can give me a reccomendation from somewhere they have stayed, or if an owner of a property could contact me with a suitable property, I'd be grateful.0

There is a website dedicated to guest-written recommendations of UK holiday cottages called www.therealvisitorsbook.co.uk
They have a page called 'Real Deals' which lists accommodation available within the calendar month so you might be able to negotiate something there.
If not, have you thought of e-bay becuase it seems an increasing number of cottage owners are using e-bay to sell off any odd weeks of holiday that they have not filled yet.
Last year we used a website which was called something like 'last minute cottages' - Google it and I'm sure you'll find it.
Also, try www.underthethatch.co.uk who are an 'ethical' holiday company and they work on the basis that they'd rather have their cottages full than empty so they do a lot of special offers - if you can hold your nerve you might pick up something really good.

After having so many bad cottages we now tend to go with Rural Retreats - not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.0

I came across a cottage holiday review website (already mentioned on the other thread) called mycottageholiday.co.uk - looks like a good idea, but still very new, so not many reviews. One to watch?0
