Who to complain to about British gas?

My partner needs to make a complaint about British gas demands for a final bill (£10 for one days gas!) which relates to 2 years ago when she switched to Atlantic (no wonder). They informed her of the sum 2 years ago and she complained to them and heard no more. They have just sent a final bill - she is going to pay to avoid any blacklist problems but wants to complain as a matter of principle rather than cost. Thanks

    Hi

They need to complain to the highest escalation point within British Gas - Angela Mancini, Head of Complaints. The address is on the back of the bill. If they get no response or it is not resolved the complaint can go to the Energy Ombudsman once the complaint is 8 weeks old. If they complained 2 years ago it would be now to late to take it to the Ombudsman.

Stage one is to phone/complain via the website or write to the complaints team. If you don't like the outcome, you can write to Andy Eley, Head of Complaints. If the problem isn't resolved within 8 weeks you can go to Energywatch. You can also get a copy of the BG code of practice from here, so that you know how they should be dealing with you.

I suggest that if you complain by phone, you follow it up with an email or letter confirming the time/date/agent who took the call and what was covered.
  • Hmmm I think I'll give one or both of those names a go with my complaint.
