October Sun - But Where? Advice please!

Hi,
I'm looking for a few ideas form you seasoned travellers here on the board!
Me and my sun & beach loving missus have a week off in October (11 - 19th) and are mulling over where to go for a sunshine break.
She likes - sun and beach
I like - bars, decent reastaurants and something to do other than lie on a beach!
We had thought about Mexico but have shelved that as a week is not really long enough to justify the travel time. Med is probably a bit iffy for guaranteeing good weather and the missus was a bit unsure when I mentioned N Africa.
Price limit, now we have shelved an all inclusive to Mexico, is about £1000 -£1200 total, does anyone have any good ideas or advice?
