HELP! Any ideas...

Hey guys, slight problem

Although I haver had an ebay account for a couple of years, I have only ever used it for buying things...Yesterday I thought I would finally put some 'junk' up for sale to start paying some debts off. I went throught the whole process, then right at the end its asking me to confirm who I am with a telephone number. After puting my mobile in a few times I read it properly to find out they only accept a landline number? Well, I don't have one lol...never have needed one, my mobile does the job just fine, and plus I could never afford the £150 installation fee.

So well, what shall I do? All my friends are about my age, and all at uni, and none seem to have a bloody phone line either, and my parents live abroad (was thinking of using someone elses number)

So yeah, I would really love to get these things on ebay, as they would pay off some bills next week...but I cant find a way...

Any ideas?

So how do you access the internet? I see you posted at just after midnight the night before last.

Would be expensive, over a mobile phone!

I guess the OP has cable.

Get VOIP on your broadband account and you should be able to get a national rate looking number.

    One of mine is 011737*****
  • I actually use one of the mobile broadband USB stick things from 02, only costs me £5 a month, and with 3gb of data, I struggle to even use 1 GB, so its more than capable for my needs.

I don't know too much about VOIP, where would I go about downloading it and setting up a number? Can I actually recieve calls on the number I set up, as ebay ring it and give youa code?

Should be able to use credit card or bank account if i'm reading this correctly.

  • Yeah, thats what I thought too, but its not the case when you try and actually sell something, dont know if they have only recently changed it...
  • Have just tried again quickly, I got to the point where it asks me to enter my bank details...I did, then it takes me to the phone number screen. Right at the bottom there is a tiny like that say 'verify me another way' which when clicked, just takes you back to the bank details page...I tried it with my bank card, then my credit card, but it couldnt verify that...so yeah

Still kinda stuck, which is proving extremely annoying!!

Any other ideas, as looking into the VOIP, that is going to still cost money, which I cant afford to do unfortunately

My son had this problem he registered an 'acceptable' card and he still had to verify by phone. In the end he waited until he was home from uni, used the house phone and then as soon as he was registered de listed it. This BTW is allowed on ebay, you just need the landline to register to sell after that you can have a mobile listed.

You do only need the landline once so any phone will do that you can have access to for 5 minutes and which does not go through a switchboard. It is a machine that calls so the number you give must be a direct number and be capable of being answered direct by you. It then just asked for a number or somethng from your id and then gives you a code which you enter to activate your selling account.

Just remember though to remove the number afterwards as ebay are going to log user locations and phone you on your registered number if you log in elsewhere, so you obviously want that one to be your mobile.

Sorry to take this OT a little, but £5pm for 3GB mobile BB - that seems like an amazing deal!

The best I can find with O2 is £20pm - do you have a link to the £5pm deal please?
