Cheap Apple Mac Hunt

Not sure if this is the place to put this, but here goes.

After years of loyalty to Windows and intel i've finally given up and want to convert to Apple, particularly fancying a Mac Mini.

Cheapest i've seen for the 1.2 GHz combo drive version is £330 from cancomuk.com.

Can anyone beat this? Thanks,

Phill.

  • I'm not 100% sure, but the Macs on cancomuk.com may be refurbs.
If you have a child in full time education, you can buy direct from the Applestore at education discount & the cheapest mac mini is £337.23

Click the education link & put in the details of a school & get the discount.

good news phill,i started using a Mac about 2 years ago and it was the best move i made.many people diss Macs when they havent even tried them, its all gossip that puts people off them.

i would never buy another windows pc again.

"once you go Mac you never go back!" i think my wife told me that comment? lol

as people have mentioned try on a wednesday for refurbs on the apple site or if you know anyone in education you can use the education store.

do not buy from ebay even if new apparently the warranty is not valid unless you purchase from an authorised seller
  • Another switcher! After 2 years of procrastinating about it, I finally switched this week. Everything just works and I keep expecting it not to.

As an example - I connected my printer, expecting to faff about with drivers etc. Turned it on and nothing happened. Went to the Printer & Fax prefpane in System Prefs and it was already there, waiting for me to use it! Pretty amazing really and how computing should be.

Macs are more expensive to begin with but they pay dividends because you're not constantly fiddling round with them and worrying about virus' and spyware etc.

As others have said, the refurb store is probably worth a go - especially as the mini's have just been upgraded? One thing I would say, DO NOT skimp on RAM - get as much as you can possibly stick in there. I have 1.2GB in this machine and it's as smooth as you like! :-)

Well done macheads, I love OSX. I have been using macs every working day since the year dot.

A bit of news for all people wishing to switch to the mac. Apple are at the moment trialling OSX running natively on windows boxes. Yes, really. This will give microshaft something to worry about. When you can go into pcworld and ask for an apple OSX dvd to install on your normal windows box. I cant wait to install it on my home PC.

It might be a while though before release.

Just remember that when you need it repaired, a 3 week wait isnt out of
the norm, Proven by the Gadget Show who like macs but were appalled at the service.

When the cd drive in my ibook went up in smoke, I had to take it to a local repair centre, and had it back within a week, so the repair turnaround isn't that bad!

By the way, give the osx86 project a look - had it running on a machine at home for a few days now. Sweet as you like.
