  • I have a visitor over from Spain and we thought about a trip to Arran but the ferry is way to expensive....contacted Visit Scotland for advice and was less than impressed with their unhelpful 'take it or leave it' attitude... see email response below...

Only Caledonian MacBrayne offer the ferry service to Arran. It is possible that at this time of year, there are no special train/ferry offers available with Scotrail.
    Sorry.
    Hope this helps.
To make it easier for you to choose the best accommodation to suit your style of holiday we provide an accommodation booking service. One of our experienced advisors can be contacted by replying to this email or by calling ***********
    Kind regards"

Not a very good way of trying to encourage people to visit Scotland... :-(

If an Arran resident it can cost slightly less for a book of return tickets, but not much.
Auchrannie Hotel offer free ferry fare at off-peak times but you must book rooms with them.
Best to take bikes, or hire them there for a day or 1/2 day.

    Regards,

Never be afraid to take a profit. ;)

What did you really expect through? Not much they can do, the ferry service is one of the few which could make a profit but the costs are high the boats are multi-million pounds and the running costs are high- staff and fuel/maintenance. The government is already chipping in and subsidising, but what else can be done?

The Dunoon Ferry is near £30 for a car and a driver and it is about 15/20mins and 2 miles across- the Arran Ferry is 13 miles and an hour.
