I was pricing tickets today for a day trip to Arran. The cost for 2 adults and 2 children in a car is over £80! (Ardrossan to Brodick). I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me where to get cheaper tickets?

Thanks for your reply. I'll be travelling from Glasgow but we were hoping to take the car over on the ferry, that's what putting the price up. I got the prices from Caledonian Macbrayne.

I organised a trip for a student society to Arran Islands about a year and half ago. We travelled from Ardrossan to Brodick via Caledonian as well. I can't recall how much was the individual tickets as i booked for 50 people but we also brought in one car full on shopping things from ASDA and a few of us cooked dinner fo 50 people!. If I am not mistaken, it was 40 quid just for the car, so your price does sound about right.

It is a lovely place to visit, I am sure you'll have a great time there!

Cal Mac is the only ferry operator, and it basically costs what it costs. About the only "special offfers" they have are the multiple journey or island hopscotch tickets

It is not that big. Probably takes about an hour plus to go from north to south. There is a bus service within the island. They aren't tha often tho, one service per hour etc but pretty good and cheaper option. I think you can also rent a car upon reaching there. From my memory of two years, I think I saw some car renting services upon arrivals. Don't quote me on that, its been some time since I went there.

I go to Arran every year, but there is no chance of discount fares. I have to take my car and grudge the cost.
I know that the council guys use a car hire firm in Brodick, and travel as foot passengers, much cheaper for the day. There used to be cars at the ferry terminal, so phone Calmac at Brodick for help. Or try visitscotland site or http://www.arranbanner.co.uk/.
Have a great time, head south for sandy beaches or north for distillery and Lochranza.

I posted the same question on trip advisor and did not get any helpful replies. The car park at the ferry terminal is quite dear.

CalMac will be running a trial of the Road Equivalent Tariff on some of their routes starting shortly I believe - however, so far as I'm aware the trial is only taking in the main Western Isles routes first off. If it gets approval though it will very likely extend to other routes over time.
