Midweek break in Clitheroe, Lancs - any tips on what to do?

Hi, I have booked a cheapo 3 night break in Clitheroe with my sis in August.

Don't know the area at all, so thought I'd pick you lovely MSE'rs brains :D

I have a gammy leg so we won't be doing a lot of hill walking, but a bit of walking on the flat is okay.

We both like browsing round unusual shops, and we are both interested in crafts and card making.

We will have a car with us but don't really want to do a lot of driving.

Any tips for any 'must-see' places in the local area.

Oh - we will be having all meals at the hotel, but if you know of somewhere nice for afternoon tea, that might be good too!

Many thanks for your input

Daisy

    Hiya Daisy :hello:

You'll be stopping in my neck of the woods, the lovely Ribble Valley!!

As you & your sister like card making etc, I can highly recommend the Oswaldtwistle Mill to you. It's free entry, and the details & other ideas are here.... www.visitlancashire.com

If you find yourself near the lovely Roman village of Ribchester, I can recommend the New Hotel for tea :D

The Forest of Bowland is well worth a visit, & look for details for Botany Bay near Chorley, and also Bygone Times in Eccleston (owned by the same company so one price covers both).

By the way, your not allowed out of Clitheroe without buying some Cowburn sausages

And a visit to Byrne's off licence on King Street (opposite the Post Office) Sells the most amazing wines, is world renowned and has a real cellar too :)

There are loads of little independent shops to mooch around although to be fair, not as many as 5-10 years ago :(

Bashall Barn is nice for lunch http://www.bashallbarn.co.uk/

and if you carry on towards Waddington there is a farm converted to crafty shops etc http://www.lancashireruralfutures.co.uk/LRF_Backridge_Farm_Waddington.htm

Waddington is a gorgeous village too. In fact, why not just drive around and view the scenery. You'll come across lots of pubs what do nice food. There is a tourist information in the Market Place so you can ask for leaflets there (just across from the library clock)

I`ll second ozzy mill as we call it,lol. You say your interested in cardmaking, well Dawn Bibby ( think her name is ) has a shop there selling her card making supplies, you`ll enjoy that. Also there`s a sewing centre Lords, plus a shop selling lovely fabric for quilting etc.
