Hi, I'm not in Ireland, but whilst the initial booking cost may be high, think of what you will save by not being home at x-mas.
We went away 24 Dec 2006, it was lovely being in Tesco buying suitcases whilst everyone else had trolleys full of food and booze.
I took a present for our daughter (concert tickets) and didn't fall into my usual trap of buying loads of bits of junk for everyone else on the run up to x-mas.

We had a fantastic holiday and are thinking of going away again this year.

  • I have to admit that last year when we went to Tenerife it was the first Xmas I can remember that I actually had money, the reason being once we booked the holiday we started to save up for it. Usually I just get the monthly wage the week before Xmas and then squander it going out and buying rubbish. I don't smoke but I brought fags home for my sister, 14 euro for 200! A bottle of vodka is about ten euro and eating out is great value. We had two main courses & 2 soft drinks for 20 euro a night. And the weather is class, 25 degrees, a lovely dry heat, it was the best Christmas I think I ever had. Everyone was chilled out having a good time, the pubs were great. Watching the ole soaps outside with a drink, couldn't beat it.
  • Also, Tenerife is dead handy to get around on buses etc. We bused from the airport to Playa de las Americas and back again for around 4 euro each way. The waterpark is still open as well. And it is better value than the Spainish mainland or the Balearics,
