Sorry - bit confused now -but thanks everyone for replies - can i just ask a few more?
    1. Food - is £600 high for 5 people? It used to be £400 or less but even with shopping at lidl i can't seem to average less than £150 a week. this includes 36 dinner money per week.NO THIS SHOULD BE FINE

    2. Oil and electricity - this is not an estimate - i have the bill. it can be prove3d and, as i said, heating is only on from 6.30 to 9 am and 4 till 10 pm from end oct to beg may. electricity may be slightly higher than it should have been as the immersion had been on for a few weeks and we didn't know this as had just moved in. So perhaps over the year it should have been about £300 less. but again, have the bills to prove usage. In addition to the oil used we have open fires - again, re the money for food, about £10 of this is for logs/coal every week. If i can prove usage with bills will they allow this amount - i know it's astronimical - oil is currently 55p a litre. If you have proof then you should be ok. But be prepared to stand your ground.

    3. life insurance - these are death policies - theres about 3 that were taken out at different times as and when we moved and got bigger mortgage in past. they are not cashable - if we start a new policy would it be cheaper now? I know i need to look into this. Double check with Scottish Debtline as to weather the OR will be interested in these.
    http://www.scottishdebtline.co.uk/

    4. LILA - the house is being reposessed and in negative equity anyway - there is no asset - various debtlines have said i can do this - can I not? If you have been told by the debtlines then yes you can.

i will look at the cutting down food board cos i have been really trying with this - i bought the cheapest chicken - £3.74 fuoll of water and have made 3 meals out of it. its the fruit and veg and toiletries, even lidl brands tha seem to add the bulk up. we also still have pull up nappies at night, 2 prescriptions a month so it all adds up. Put down the £600 on the I&E then when you go BR have a good look round the boards and see where you can make little savings. The Oldstyle board is good.

more homework to go and do now! every answer throws up another question!

    Hope that helps some.

Bankruptcy is an individual thing, it is the person named on the order/application whose income is relevant, not what is coming into the household. I have friends who the wife has just done a LILA and hubby went BR before April and earns a good salary.

Also, You can do bankcrupcy through LILA if you have no income, income under £218 (or £228), get working tax credits, AND have no assests worth more than £500 and total assets worth less than 10,000. As you said that you do not have any income that should be fine, but they might argue that your household has income if over 2.5k a month, way more than within the guidelines.

HI and thanks for all your posts. Just looked at receipts for this weeks shopping - more thean £150? £39 in one day for fruit, bread, milk, cereal, raisins, dishwasher tablets (own brand) and dog food (bakers complete not posh stuff) - honest to god - what the hell is happening?

£250 rent? Well, it certainly isn't that here and we couldn't share 2 rooms - well, we could but having a nearly 9 and nearly 7 boy and 3 yr girl in one room would not be fun! Never mind the lab and cat. The cheapest council house to buy here is £156,000 with a rent of £450 per month. Had chap from Picture round alst week and he was absolutely fine with I&E so that has put mind at rest.

Car got taken today - glad something has happened but everything else is just going so slow. SHould have done this in England 7 monthsago.

Sorry Purplekylie22 - we live in Strathblane, it's between Bearsden and Drymen (on the way to Loch Lomond). I love Aberdeen but a bit far to travel for hubby's work.

OH, re Life insurance -got it slightly wrong on checking - it's actually about £98 but am cancelling anyway as have found quotes for £68. This is for £400,000 on death for both of us as all the advice is to get 10 x biggest salary.

    Take care,

Oh God, isn't this what you just dread happening - do I know you?!!!!! What a kind offer you have just made - isn't it when people are kind that you start to lose it!

God hacked off totally yesterday as hubby invited brother, wife and sister to stay tonight - i had worked out i had £19 left for petrol and milk till friday. They are used to finer things (as were we!) so had to beg friend for £30 to go and get food - making goats cheese & veg pie, new pots, salad, cheese & biscs. With bread, milk, fruit, crisps (cheap mixed bag) and coffee it came to £27.10. Husband raiding petty cash for wine (well, he is owed £340 expenses so justified i feel. he will put in an iou. better go - kids screaming over sweets

Oh no, I'm pretty certain I don't know you......if I did I certainly wouldn't embarass you by offering a friendly ear!

The offer is still there.......I live about 20 minutes from you, have kids much the same age and I'm always skint (been quite seriously ill & off work for 5 mths) so I can sympathise.

I used to hate it when people came over and it cost me loads.....now I make a point of taking something home-made when I go anywhere.

Well, it was a lovely evening and worth the borrowed money! It's glorious weather, one sister in law still here, £3 in my purse but i am not thinking about it - it's pay day tomorrow! Play/picnic in the park later so cheap day.

I hope you are better now - who are your kids, as in sex/age?

GOing to plan my whole months shopping tonight and be organised for tomorrow. Phone ringing off the hook but life goes on and the sun is shining. Today is a ?Happy Day? (so far)

Aw, I'm glad you had a nice evening!

    My kids are:

    Boy: 16 (today actually!)
    Girl: 15
    Girl: 12
    Girl: 7

I also have 2 foster kids of 8 & 4 at the moment. I'm not sure how long they'll be here for yet, but it's nice to have some little ones around again.....my teens seem to do nothing but fight and treat me as their own personal bank/wardrobe! :o

I'm off to the local sea-life centre tomorrow (free tickets!) so hope the weather gets back to being sunny. I usually go once a week to keep the little people in my life happy .....my 7 yr old has a thing about starfish (I blame Sponge-Bob!) and loves it there.

If you'd like to come along during the hols then just send me a message and I'll give you my phone #.........my mother in law has a local business and always manages to get her hands on complimentary tickets, so it's a cheap day out..........a massive bonus during the summer.

We're also adopting a bearded collie some time during the next few weeks, so it'll be time for the park/skates (the kids, not the poor dog!) and bikes while I tire them all out!

Have you seen the board for discounts/vouchers yet? I always try to get a code for Asda/Tesco if I'm doing the shopping online (most of them get you free delivery at the very least).......might be worth a look. If you can't find any then give me a shout.......I usually have a few in use.

Hope you've had a nice week and are enjoying the (rare!) good weather!
