Asda Credit Card and Storecard?

Anyone know anything about these/signed up for them?

They have been signing people up in my local store for a while now but I havent had the chance to stop and chat with them to find out more.

I cant find any info online either?

I spend about £200.00 a month in Asda so would be keen to know of any potential money saving benefits these cards offer.

Thanks

Paul

it's half a percent cashback in the form of asda vouchers, so for every thousand you spend on it you get a fiver in vouchers in november. the APR isn't good but i can't remember what it was. i think there was a 6 month 0% balance transfer period but of course they're encouraging you to spend on it for the cashback so they'd rack up the interest on your purchases during that 6 months. you can get half a percent cashback from other cards, some cards offer more than that i believe.
    52% tight
  • Hi Paul,

As BB has said, its 0% for 6 months with 0.5% cashback. I'd apply for the Sainsburys card if I was you.

Strangely enough I went to Asdas on the way home from work tonight and asked the guy trying to sell it at the entrance to the store about the card.

Q:Do you have a leaflet about it?
    A: No.

Q:Do you have any details written down about the T&C?
A: No, but its all on the back of the application form?

Q:Can I have a copy of that to read then?
A:No, cant do that, you have to apply for the card first.

Thought the idea was to encourage customers to apply! In the end he verbally told me the essential points.

PeterPauper, I had a similarly useless conversation. Asked the checkout assistant whether the card was only available as a payment card, or also as a loyalty card (like Boots). He just couldn't understand what I meant, but eventually told me that yes, it could.

Then as it happened a supervisor came over so I aske her to be sure, and she told me that no, it couldn't.

So I'm still none the wiser!!!

As someone who is trying to rebuild my credit rating(have initial Barclycard and Capitalone credit rebuilder card) I find these types of storecards valuble only in terms of further improving your credit file. As long as you pay them off in full every month they are as good as any other card out there.
  • Fair point If you pay them off in full monthly.

  • :-[ Hiya people, newbiee here,

I work for said company and even I have problems understanding how the cards work!!!! ???

I went for the store card which gives me x amount to spend in store every month.

If nothing else, always pay off the amount in full every month so that you don't pay any interest, but are still eligable for vouchers every November. I spend about £300 per month and will only get back about £15 at the end of the year!! :o

Beware though, if you go to your limit on the store card, then pay off the amount when the statement comes, even if you use cash, it takes almost 2 weeks for the account to clear back to zero so that you can start using it again!!! Therefore, if you can't use it, you can't get any cashback!

Be careful with what ever cards you use, interest is high, and cashback is low. They make their money from the non money savers out there!

First of all, welcome to MoneySavingExpert DragonLadyWendy :D

I can't believe that it takes them nearly 2 weeks for an amount to be credited - what are they doing? counting out the money by hand?
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)
  • :D Thank you for your welcome!!

I know, it is ridiculous - every day I phone them up to find out if my account is back to zero, and I keep being told to wait at least 10 working days (in my book that is 2 weeks!!) As I work for said company we do all our shopping there as i get colleague discount, so it is really annoying that i can't use my store card and earn "minimal" cashback at the same time!! :-/

Never mind, I'm sure it will all come out in the wash ok!! (Bizzare quotation!)
