Lining Paper - is it ok for parcels?

Me again, with another query

I have a roll of lining paper which I dont need - I have wrapped it round a box and it seems to not tear etc., however does the wrapping paper have to be the brown stuff.

A lot of the items I have received have not even had paper round them, just shoe boxes taped up with my address written on the top :D . I am all for recycling just about everything so I'm ok with this.

The questions just go on and on and on.........................I went to a classical music concert last night which was amazing but guess who was thinking about ebay, wrapping parcels and the like? ;)

Use whatever you want, as long as it's well packed. :)

I'm a big fan of picking up and using the "end rolls" of vinyl wallpaper in bright colours for 50p from B&Q .... but NOT the ready pasted stuff!!!

    :)

  • Yes, lining paper is ideal. Wallpaper is usually also suitable, but be careful it doesn't cost you more in postage by adding too much to the weight of lighter parcels. Also, some types of wallpaper don't fold quite as easily or neatly as purpose-designed parcel paper, but that's a fairly minor concern. I use recycled packaging as much as possible, for the sake of economy as well as to help protect the environment.
However, it's also worth mentioning that my local Somerfield recently had parcel packing sets with 3 sheets of brown paper (suitable for small parcels you want to keep light) reduced to 24p recently, so if you have a Somerfield near you, it may be worth a look.

I have a ton of old wallpaper I will not be using (50p rolls from Laura Ashely - quite tasteful some of them), so I could use them up! Thanks so much. I bet your Post Office likes the relief of your parcels after all the brown ones :)

  • I mostly reuse padded envelopes, especially those from https://www.play.com
  • I must be a real lazy *** because I never cover a box in paper, it just gets tons of brown tape, 2 goes round with FRAGILE tape and a return sticker!

Having said that when I started ebaying the parcels did get a paper wrap-over but then I worried that if the paper got stuck in a machine and tore off there would be nothing on the box to identify the buyers or my addresses so I gave up.

You want to be careful that the paper doesn't come off and the box gets lost - this happened at work a couple of times. I'd write the address on the box as well as the paper.

;) ... And don't forget, if a parcel ever goes missing, it's much easier to find a Laura Ashleyesque wrapped parcel in amongst the brown paper ones. :)

As mentioned above, don't forget to slap an extra return address on the box beneath the wrapping paper just in case. ;)
