Help changing enteric supplier

I am with southern eltric on a standaed tarrif & am thinking of changing to scotish power on a capped rate. how do i know that i am getting the best rate per unit by changing as i could actually be paying more ? uswitch said that i would save £50 / year but the capped rate is more interesting to me as long as the price per unit is the same or less.
