Dictation software

Hey folks. Not sure if anyone can point me in the right direction.

OH's mum wants me to do some typing for her from home. She dictates inventories for empty houses and needs them typed up. I have Windows XP Home Edition.

I need some sort of dictation software. She emailed me an attachment which opened up in Windows Media and I could hear her but I don't have a foot pedal and I had to continually stop typing, then click on Pause, then restart it again etc...which obviously takes time and time is money! I am sure she wouldn't mind changing her handset if she had to, so does anyone know where I could get something, I don't want to be ripped off but have no idea what I am looking for.

Many thanks

Try Naturally Speaking made by Dragon. Haven't used it myself but is one of the most well-known. But, all programmes like this take time to "train" so it is used to your voice.

I have tried Dragon Naturally Speaking but I am not sure if that is what the OP is asking for.

Dragon Naturally Speaking needs training but is quite good and you really need a headset for it to work well, you speak and it types it for you.

I'm assuming it is the breaking from typing to use the mouse that is causing the frustration here, so why not use CTRL-P to stop and start the recording?

Yes that is what is frustrating. Thought I would need a foot pedal but hadn't thought of that, will give it a try anyway. Is there keyboard equivalent of rewind as well?

Thanks for your help everyone. :)

Windows media player only seems to offer a rewind to start of track, which I don't think is what you want. Perhaps someone knows of another audio player which could be downloaded which offers a 'proper' rewind?

Try JetAudio (https://www.jetaudio.com). Excellent keyboard control. Space to pause / play, arrows to FF, RW (configurable time).

Hi can any help? I'm after a recorder for when I'm taking minutes at committee meetings. I've looked at the digital recorders but am baffled as to what would be best for me to use and something which is fairly easy to use most importantly! I'm wondering what distance range they pick up on as i can't seem to find this information on the specifications of them.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great! Thanks

What is the range? Do they pick up conversations of those who aren't directly near by?
