Problem with Argos Bed Order-please read!!!

Hello Everyone,
I made an internet order from Homebase for a double bed & mattress. This order was placed on 17th May 2008. In their small print they said that the order should be complicated by 14th July.
Some weeks later we got a letter stating that due to exceptional demand there would be a delay and they expect to have the stock in by 9th July this letter was dated 10th June. Various emails from me they now confirm that the the order cannot be completed by the 14th July.
I need to know where I stand legally in terms of complaining as a consumer that they have broken their agreement, also looking at a refund and compensation for all the time and bother all for a bed.
I hope someone can help me!
Many Thanks
Jason

Get a refund and then pop down to Helibeds if they have one near you - they deliver the same day!!!! It is outrageous how long you have waited - what if you had not had anything to sleep on!!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

i have just had a very simular experience with argos(part of homebase) i ordered my son a bed frame in april, argos stated 28 days delivery which in my opinion is still too long to wait, got a letter in may to say due to huge demand they were not expecting any in to warehouse until 15th june, bit dissapointed but these things happen, by this time my son was now sleeping on the floor on a matress as after the 28 day period we got rid of his old bed, 15th june came and went, no word about bed, so last week went into my local argos store to enquire, after the assistant phoned the warehouse up i was told this item is no longer available, to say i as furious is an understatment, not the shops fault i know, so i complained by telephone, was told to put it in writing, then got a phone call from head office full of appologies..and a £10 voucher whoopie, my poor son has been without a bed for 6 weeks and waited 10 weeks altogether, lady on phone asked if had re-ordered a bed and i said yeah but noit from you..went tomy local walmsleys and got bed delivered 2 days later..very poor communication...wondering if i had nt went in shop were they actualy going to inform me.:hello:0

Same problem here with Argos. Checked stock on phone. Bed in stock. Phoned back to order. Lead time was 3 weeks on internet so I said I wanted it delivering in 3 weeks. But they can't do that. It could be delivered next week only. Told me to ring back at the end of week to make another delivery date. Rang back yesterday. Bed now out of stock without an expected in stock date.
They charged my account when I ordered it and then sold MY bed to someone else. Refunds will take 7 to 10 days.
Now I have to wait for them to ring and say when they have one for delivery. Meanwhile I have the choice between organising for the council to collect old bed before I know there is a new one ready or having a house full of beds!
This will be the last time I ever buy a large item for home delivery from Argos.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0
