Corgi registration process for a new Boiler installation

Hi All,

This is my first post and hope I've written in the right category..
My partner and I have recently bought our first home (1 b/r shoebox really..) and we're getting builders to redo the kitchen/bathroom and other bits and bobs.

A CORGI registered plumber has been in to install our brand spanking new Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28 Combi boiler (saw a lot of great reviews on MSE about this brand and decided to go with it). I understand the guy is meant to give us a certificate at the end of all this, but was hoping someone could shed light on what the actual 'registration' process is to get this certificate.

I've checked that he is registered, but need to be sure what he gives me is the actual thing I need.. especially if we decide to ever rent the place out.
Is it just a certificate from him saying the boiler has been installed by a certified CORGI plumber, or does it come from Vaillant or the local council...?

Advice would be greatly appreciated, as he's supposedly about to wrap up and we have to pay him. :)
Cheerio.

Good morning: Relevant info on Building Regs compliance certificates here You will receive the certificate in the post from CORGI (timeline varies) if your installer can self-certify . Make sure your CORGI has completed the Benchmark Log (installation and service record within the installation manual) which you keep, you register your warranty with Vaillant and have your boiler serviced in 12 months to maintain the warranty.

  • Thanks for your replies - the CORGI guy was in yesterday and has confirmed he will self certify - ie go through Corgi who will then inform the building authority.

However, that log book is currently missing - he'd left it one spot, but seeing as there have been up to 5 guys working in the same space with belongings/rubbish and equipment everywhere (i'll emphasise.. everywhere!), nobody knows where it is exactly. He has said he will ring Vaillant and ensure the registration is done - does this sound fine in your opinion? Do we really need that book for future servicing?

Lastly, he recommended getting insurance on the boiler - thoughts? Any recommendations on companies to go with or is British Gas the only one available?

    Thanks.
