Plastering over Plasterboard

I've recently finished some stud partitioning using 12.5mm square edge plasterboard. The plasterboard manufacturer says fill screw holes and joints with finish plaster; tape over the joints with plasterboard tape (the paper type) using finish plaster as an adhesive. Then skim the whole wall etc.
However, the plasterer says use self adhesive mesh-type tape, with no need to pre-fill the screw holes. Any thoughts/opinions please?
p.s. Is pre-sealing the wall with Unibond a good idea (allowing it to dry thoroughly) before plastering? Thanks.

all the plasterers I have used have used the mesh and not prefilled the holes
the plastering side of the board is already designed to accept the skim without any PVAEx forum ambassador

I'm no expert, just a DIYer and the Mesh tape wins hands down here. Easier to use and stronger (imo).
You don't have to plaster over the plasterboard, you can just fill and skim the joints then paint with watered down emulsion or a proprietary p/b sealer.
All the houses built round our way have plasterboarded but not plastered over walls.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Hi,
If you are plastering over the board there is no need to fill the screw holes first, ensure that all screws are countersunk below the surface.
Fix the self adhesive scrim to the plasterboard, then skim over it. there is no need to seal plasterboard before skimming!

Whilst there is no NEED to plaster over plasterboard, just filling screw holes and joints (even with tape) is unlikely to give you the kind of finish you might want. A plaster skim wins every time and is less likely to crack at the plasterboard joints.0

All above is true Scrim joints with self ahdesive tape (mesh) and skim if you dont skim and @ some point wall paper the walls or if bathroom kitchen tile the area it makes a complete mess of the board surface when stripping. The paper tape is used for artexing and for when like said before when the boards are going to be just painted but this type of finish is mostly done in offices, shops and show rooms0

Thanks for the replies. Incidentally, to tape and plaster a cubicle containing toilet and washbasin (four internal walls, ceiling, plus one external wall)that are all plasterboarded i've just been quoted £180. How does this sound please? (I'm in Herts, just outside the M25). Thanks.

I live in Manchester so don't know about regional prices but I would say this seems to be a fare price.0
