#Assuming you mean the little icon in the system tray(near the clock), that is only an indication of the connection between pc and router and is not reliable as a guide to wether or not you are connected to the internet.
More info is needed such as.
    is this a wireless connection?
    what version of windows?
    make and model of router?
    type of broadband connection
    dsl or cable?
Post back exactly what happens when you are "kicked off"

There is a thread on a wondows update and zone arlarm which means you cannot connect to the internet. You have to download an update for your zone alarm. In order to connect in the first place to update you may need to down grade your security level to medium but remember to put it back up to high when you've upgraded.

Two, Router set to 20mins inactivity cut you off, second thought using outlook, there is a setting to disconnect after send/receive.
