Thankfully i havent had to really use a vet for anything major, but have used the surgery in ballyclare, for a check up, was much more reasonable than that. Something a friend told me tho, he used to ask his dog groomer for advice, they see so many through their doors they have loads of tips. When I got my dog from a rescue home it had a mild case of kennel cough, asked vet, he wanted to give her tablets and injections, just about £100 worth, happened to ask a mate and he told me his dog had had that, and the groomer told him to try a small amount of baby benalin, no flavours or sugar one. I asked another vet if it would do any harm and he said to try it, wouldnt do any harm if in small dose. And yep it worked fine
Might'nt be any use but worth a try eh? Whats wrong with it anyway?

She has become reluctant to eat at times has vomited several and is losing wait but is still full of fun; plays with her ball and the cat. and enjoys her walks.0

I have used Gortland Vetinary surgery in Gilnahirk for several years and have found their service excellent and they are reasonable to pay.0

I am a bit confused by your post.
Is he or she now unwell?
Was the tablet to prevent fleas?
£84.00 is astronomical if that's all you got.
Most vets will charge a first consultation fee [£20-40], who was it?0 -

My dogs used to be registered with Gortlands. The best I can say about them is that they are cheap. You get what you pay for, IMO.
I changed vets and have been using Earlswood for the last couple of years. They are more expensive but the level of care and expertise is far superior.0 -
My dog got one tablet to prevent fleas months ago, this has nothing to do with how she is now. I am just stating that I thought the price was very high for a consultation and a tablet and trying to imagine what this particular vet would charge for bringing a sick animal to the surgery. The vet in question is Glenburn.0

used glenburn (glengormley) in the past wasn't impressed. I now use clare vetinary ballyclare. They have a satellite surgery in whiteabbey. excellent service0

Clare Vets have always been reasonable with me when I lived back home have used both the ballyclare branch and the witeabbey one. So was john Doherty (google Farmhill vet centre woodburn).
Good luck
SRNo outfit is complete without cat hair or baby vomit :j0 -
I would respectfully suggest that if your pet is sick you must take him or her to a vet as soon as possible rather than allow the problem to develop over a period of days.
I have been going to Holywood Veterinary Clinic (028 9042 6587) with my cats over the past three years and they have been excellent.
If money is a problem then you can do one of two things. Either talk to the vet honestly about your money worries and see whether they can help (even if they can't/won't reduce the price, maybe they will allow you to pay in instalments) or go to the PDSA in north Belfast.
They are basically a charitable organisation that provides veterinary treatment for animals whose owners cannot afford the usual fees. I'm not sure exactly what criteria the PDSA use (perhaps you need to be on benefits etc) but give them a ring.
It sounds as though your pet is uninsured and perhaps getting on in years so he or she will be more susceptible to illness. But you can help. A change of diet might even do the trick. Take him or her to see a vet straight away. Remember, your pet's health is the most important thing.0 -
i find a few vets in ballymena charge ridiculous prices. ring up beforehand if its something simple, ie worm tabs, flea tabs. get insurance, but be wary of a vet, like my local one whose first question was is your dog insured even before he asked what was wrong with him. my last doggy (god rest his furry soul) had 3 operations on sainsburys pet plan and they were fantastic and paid out within a couple of days. try somewhere like jolleyes for simple things.
my god, my mother in law always treated her dogs with childrens medicine, probaly not recommended by most vets. all her dogs live to be well over 13 years.0
