My Girlfriend booked her holiday [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] and when the holiday was due to is paid in full one of the party who had to pull out and the travel company said that was ok.
Today she called them to ask where her conformation was that the holiday had been paid for and was told she need to pay 269 pounds for the other person pulling out she was not told this at any point when paying for her hoilday in full serveral weeks ago.
Otherwise she cannot travel, bearing in mind she had already paid for her ticket in full now being asked for this additional money.
This flight was booked over the phone back in April 08 and is a Thomas Cook flight and had until mid June to pay the full balance which was done.
We have both been off and on the phone listening to 20 to 25 minutes of music before being connected to someone and every time just being told the same story that we should have read the terms of the conditions, she was never sent this and we have now been told that they are in the brochure this is a flight only booking, also that the terms and conditions are bonding to enforce these, from my experience you have had to sign them, this has never been done.
I have read over ABTA website and will go down there complaints procedure but in my experience of regulators the travel companies pay ABTA yearly so I know for a fact that ABTA will be in the travel companies pockets.
Only other avenue is county court which can be very time consuming.
So that’s my advice to everyone reading this just remember the name.

So what exactly is the £269 for?0

Your post is a little difficult to understand
As for terms and conditions you dont have to sign to say you have read them but they should have been available and my guess is they were on their website....are you sure you didnt tick a box..and even if you didnt you could and should have made an effort to read them BEFORE booking with this company.
Is it just that it was to late in the day to canel one persons booking ie the full amount was due for everyone travelling.
Or if it is just a flight and it is a cheap non cancellable/non refundable type ticket, maybe that is the answer
have just re read and see it is flight only,as I said most cheap flights are as above
The OP has only posted twice both times about being ripped off, the last time was in feb about Lloyds tsb...24 replies but no response from the OP, maybe this time he will be back to update us?0 -
Your post is overly emotive and as mentioned above, a little hard to understand. You need to clarify what the £269 you're being asked for is actually for.
I'm assuming you won't bother posting on here again (you didn't bother after your rant about charges).
Anyway the travel company's website does state
"Any changes or cancellations must be received in writing from the lead named passenger. Any amendment or cancellation will result in charges." (my emphasis)0 -

fair enough , but it's small print like this (among other things) that makes people shun travel agents on do things themselves IMO.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

Fair point - admittedly the quote from the website is ambiguous. Without knowing what the agents are asking the £269 for it's hard to know what's happened.0 -
I've never heard of an agent or tour operator who says it is "ok" when a member of a party pulls out of a holiday or cancels a flight that has been booked. There is always some sort of cancellation charge be it loss of deposit or more depending on when the person pulls out.
As the person seems to have pulled out when the balance was due this charge will be a cancellation charge.
Cancellation charges are imposed by the tour operator/airline not the travel agent, so blaming them isn't fair as it's not their fault. When the flight confirmation was sent out a copy of the T&Cs would have been sent.
The OP is a bit of a rant and not very clear and unlikely that we will get a response!
At the end of the day tour operators and airlines are running a business not a charity so when someone cancels there will be a charge. If they all said oh it's ok they would all be out of business!:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

I have had 2 holidays through Bookable and their service has been very good. Both were to Egypt and great value for money all inclusive to 4 star hotels.I rang a couple of times with questions and received satisfactory answers. They even contacted me at Christmas to send me good wishes.I am going to book with them again to Egypt this December.Value for Money is amazing.0

As this was booked over the phone and is an internet company, i would take it this person has done it themselves and this is what the problem is too many people dont know what they are doing properly, dont read the terms and conditions and then when something goes wrong want to blame everyone but themselves. I think you'll find had they booked it with a travel agent in a shop face to face they wouldnt be ranting on here and wouldnt be in this predicament.
Cant quite understand the rant but presume its flight only and usually you have to pay in full and thats why money is still owing. I dont think it has but had it got accommodation included if someone drops out that usually means there is then under occupancy so the people still going still have to pay the difference.0
