Try This
Try this option first. Go to START-->RUN and type in: sfc /scannow <--Note the space between sfc & /scannow.
This will go through and check each windows file and replace any files that are corrupt/damaged. After the blue bar goes away, reboot your computer.0 -
Mr Skint, I tried your recommendations but to no avail. Perhaps I need more memory. At the moment I have 256mb to run xp which I upgraded from se98 and has worked fine up until now. Thanks tweeter.Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Try a defrag also,,, Start, All Programs, Accesories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter..
Whilst doing this turn off your screen saver.0 -
Mr Skint, I mentioned defragging in my first message.Would like me to do it again and then try the sfc /scannow? Aaah sorry nah no point, I think as you say you may need a bit more ram
as I expect its the PC struggling a bit, also I wpould suggest doing a scandisk.
Double Click My Computer Icon, Right click, Choose properties, Tools Tab,
checknow, put the two ticks in and then start, then restart PC0 -
Mr Skint,Have done a scandisk as well. So I suppose I'll have to shell out. Thanks for bearing with me, tweeter.Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Yeah more than likely as if programs take quite a while Its as you
suspect that its down to lack of ram....
Just make sure also that you have done a good AV scan
just too rule out anything untoward...0 -
I'm not clear what operating system you're running.
If it is XP, then it would be a good move to start Task Manager, then click on the Performance tab, and look at the number near the bottom left, Commit Charge (K) Total to see how it compares with the amount of real memory you have in the PC. An extremely approximate rule of thumb is that the Total Commit Charge value should be about the same size as the Real Memory, or, if larger, not much more more than about 25% larger.
Also, if the Peak Commit Charge value is significantly more than the amount of Real Memory, the more you are likely to need a memory upgrade.
XP runs quite nicely in 512 MB of memory, unless you're running very large programs, in which case 1 GB is very good!

John Grey and Mr Skint, I have used the xp system restore which never occurred to me do in the first place being a beginner. It seems to be ok now-crossed fingers.
John Grey, I have taken your point about the Task Manager as a guide. Thanks to you both, tweeterPeel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...0
