Banana Storage

I am sure our lovely BG PenPen will find the answer for me! DH bought 4 bananas this morning which are really quite ripe. He has put them in the fridge to slow down the ripening process. I am sure I read somewhere you shouldn't put bananas in the fridge.
Help, please.

Someone posted recently that if you wrap them in a teatowel and then store in the fridge, the skins go black but the insides are fine (apparently the teatowel stops the inside getting so cold so it doesn't go black) or somethingworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

If you put bananas in the fridge, the other food absorbs the smell really badly.0

I thought bananas shouldn't go in fridge, too. I was given a bunch of bananas to use us last night so, to stop them over-ripening, I peeled and sliced them and wrapped them in custard.:D0

I always thought bananas got sweaty if you leave them in a bag.
However my friend told me that she keeps hers on the side in a tightly tied bag.
I'VE TRIED IT AND IT DOES SLOW DOWN THE RIPENING PROGRESS!
I'm weird I know, but once they taste banana-ery I down't really like them - too sweet I think.
Lakeland sell a banana bag but it I don't know if they work.:wave:0 -
There's an older thread here about keeping bananas.
This is a banana tree - often used to keep bananas:

I knew you wonderful folk would come up trumps. Going down stairs to remove from fridge and we will just need to eat over next couple of days. My banana bread days (renowned in the local school recipe book!) are over.
Thanks.

i know it's not quite the same thing, but if I'm using bananas for baking or smoothies, I simply cut them up and pop them in the freezer - makes the smoothies nice and icrecreamy!!0

just to say .... I've got one of those banana bags from Lakeland.... it was a present (i wouldn't have one otherwise!) and they are great!
i found that I bought bananas everyweek and threw them out at the end of the week because they were too "spotty" and too banana tasting ...but now I don't throw them away... true the skin goes black but inside they are still lovely and hard and don't over ripen... i have kept them as long as 3 weeks....having said that all the bag seems to be is bubblewrap inside a nylon type cover which has a drawstring so that they are slightly insulated (as the other post above was saying)
I think it was about £5 but it has definately saved me more than that in not throwing stuff out.
